Functions of Union Parishad
2. A. Compulsory Functions:
1) To maintain peace and to help the administration in this regard.
2) To take various steps to curb crime, disorder and smuggling.
3) To accept and adopt innovative projects in the areas of agriculture, forest, tree plantation, fisheries, and animal resources, education, health, cottage industries, communication, irrigation and flood rules etc. for economic and social development of the people.
4) Promoting family planning work.
5) Creation of consolidated assets and ensure its use.
6) To preserve and maintain the property of the people, such as roads, bridges, culverts, dams, canals, electricity lines, government properties etc.
7) To review the activities of all the parliamentary proceedings at the union level and submit recommendation to the Upazila Executive Officer.
8) Self-promotion and use of toilet facilities to inspire the public and campaign on this topic.
9) Registration of births, marriages, blinds, beggars and the oppressed.
10) Manage all types of census.
